Electrical Tips for the Fall Season

It’s fall again – which means it’s time for outdoor clean-up and seasonal decorating. Here’s a few reminders to help keep you safe:
  • If working outside make sure your exterior receptacles are the GFCI type or protected by a GFCI breaker.
  • Test the receptacle and/or breaker by depressing the test button and check that the power turns off, depress the reset button and check that the power comes back on.
  • Check your extension cords to ensure the third ground pin is not missing or broken. Look for visible signs of damage along the cord’s length. Replace the cord if you notice any flaws.
  • Never work outdoors with electrical appliances or tools unless the power source is GFCI protected.
